Plasma Rack

The Plasma Rack is a high-quality 1U rack-mount audio effects processor for professional and studio use.

At its core, it's a unique high-voltage distortion concept, a completely new way of processing analog signals developed in 2018 by Gamechanger Audio.

Using a high-voltage transformer, the Plasma Rack transforms your instrument's signal into a series of rapid electrical discharges in a xenon-filled lamp. These powerful discharges (up to 5,000 volts) are then picked up by a specially designed electromagnetic receiver and converted back into an audio signal. The result is an extremely heavy distortion that saturates the sound and gives a lot of harmonics.

The harmonics produced, created as a derivative of the high-voltage discharge, are completely original in the field of traditional signal amplification, so the Plasma's distortion is unique and unlike anything you've heard before.

The way the Plasma Rack reacts to different instruments and sound sources simply cannot be replicated with any analog machine, plugin, or digital modeling.

• 3-band EQ

Gives you more control over the Plasma's key frequencies (10Hz, -20 to 20dB Low Pass Shelving Filter, 600Hz, -6 to 6dB, 20kHz, -10 to 10dB High Pass Shelving Filter).

• Input Gain Control

Can be used to adjust the Plasma Rack for any type of input signal (like different mics, for example). Preamp from -26dB to +12dB.

• Sustain Mode

Built-in adaptive compressor that allows the Plasma's tube output to be extended with low voltage settings. This results in an unpredictable and extraordinary effect.

• Oversaturate Mode

Octave-up/harmonic effect achieved by overloading the Plasma's tube. This gives notes attack and fat Octavia-like upper harmonics.

• Clean Gate Mode

Use the Plasma's tube gate effect on any clean signal without adding overdrive. Perfect for percussive instruments or for pushing reverbs to create a bit crush effect.

• Tremolo / Ringmod

A very distinctive tremolo circuit that takes full advantage of the Plasma's brutal tube bursts.

• Built-in Distortion Channel

The Plasma's sound blends very well with classic op-amp overdrive, so the Plasma gives you access to a built-in distortion circuit to create a huge sound instantly. The Clean Gate setting applies the tube gate effect to the overdriven channel.

• 3 FX Loops with switchable level control

Change the signal path by inserting external effects or plugins into different parts of the Plasma signal chain.

FX LOOP 1 – affects only the original signal.

FX LOOP 2 – affects only the effect, before going into the Plasma tube.

FX LOOP 3 – affects only the effect, after the Plasma tube.

Connections

Inputs: 1 unbalanced jack (instrument), 1 balanced jack/XLR combo input (with pad).

Outputs: 1 balanced XLR and 1 unbalanced jack.

MIDI: In, Thru, Out.

MIDI Control + 8 Preset Slots

Control all parameters and values via CC messages and Program Change messages. The Plasma Rack also has 8 preset slots to store your sounds, including settings states and values. Also, multiple Plasma Racks can be synchronized via MIDI CC messages.

Assignable Expression Input

Any knob on the Plasma can be assigned to an expression pedal.
